It’s time to get those early bird tickets to Canada’s most Northern folk festival, which takes place on Long Lake in Yellowknife from July 20-22nd, 2018.  Early Bird tickets are on sale until May 13th.

Folk On The Rocks is one of Canada’s top summertime music and cultural festivals that draws performers from  all across Canada.  If you haven’t taken your family to an outdoor cultural event, like a festival, it’s definitely a must-do.  We started going last summer (with a 1 and 3 year old) and it’s such a great experience because the kids can run free and enjoy the outdoors while seeing, firsthand, some top cultural entertainment.

The event offers more than 24 hours of programming on five stages as well as a special children’s area.   It’s one of the top festivals offering family-friendly activities and enjoyment for all ages.

We received a press release detailing all that’s expected for this year:

Famed Juno nominated indie pop group Stars, Juno award winning folk duo Whitehorse, Toronto’s innovative indie rockers Weaves, and moody folk group The Weather Station are all scheduled to perform. The Festival will also showcase a number of local talent, including Juno award winning duo Quantum Tangle, composer Carmen Braden, electronic hip-hop duo Ororo Mohawk, and the Yellowknife Dene Drummers.

“There were so many amazing female fronted bands to choose from this year,” says FOTR executive director Carly Bradley regarding the Festival’s efforts to increase the selection of diverse acts in the festival’s lineup. “It was incredible how easy it was to fulfill and even exceed our pledge to have 50% gender parity. Although we have always had a strong indigenous and minority presences this year we made a conscious effort to highlight those voices more than ever- which has resulted in one of our best line-ups yet.”

You can follow along via their social media (Facebook and Twitter pages) for further news regarding the 2018 Festival.
